My husband got us a pool table for Christmas. Being the clever man he is, my husband marked off with tape on the floor where the table would be in the den, so he could position the light properly. And it looks GREAT - and it was a lot smarter to put the light up BEFORE the table is installed than trying to do it AFTER the pool table is there.
It will illuminate the playing surface perfectly, which is what it's designed for. The table itself is coming tomorrow (yay!) so while the light just hung there, I took tape, some post-it notes and pennies, and string, then put together strings with bright post-it flags. I hung them from the four corners, because the corners are sharp, and it hangs at a level just where you don't notice it and could easily lay your scalp open. So the pennies in the post-it flags taped to the string has prevented that.
My husband did see someone giving the light a low rating because this POOL TABLE LIGHT didn't illuminate the whole room. Well, duh!!! It's NOT SUPPOSED to illuminate the room, just the playing field. It says in the paperwork you may need additional lighting in the room. So if you read that, remember that writer did not read the papers that came with the light, and keep that in your consideration.
